What is real? What is truth? What is good? What is beauty? How should we live our lives? What is a human being? Throughout the history it has been a major task for humanity to ask and reflect upon such questions. In the book “Philosophy – a first meeting” we present some of the answers given by different philosophers. We aim at getting you inspired in working and thinking wider and deeper into these questions and looking for your own way in answering them.

Philosophy – a first meeting” consists of eight different parts: ontology, epistemology, ethics, political philosophy, non-western philosophy, esthetics, language and argumentation, and finally philosophy of science. To give an introduction to these themes is obviously a path of balance. Both the sake of giving a correct and respectful summary of the thoughts of the great philosophers and the sake of pedagogy need to be taken in to consideration. We hope that the reader will be encouraged to read more philosophy and get insight in the different and exciting ways of thinking.
